Roopa was initiated into Bharathanatyam, by Smt. Nirmala Madhava in Bangalore. She continued her training under Sri K R S Prasanna. She furthered her artistic journey under the tutelage of Guru Bhanumathi under whose guidance she achieved a distinction in her Proficiency Grade (vidwat) exam. Roopa, continues to tread this path as she advances her training under Guru Bhanumahti and Guru Sheela Chandrashekhar.
Roopa performed her Arangetram in 1993 and since then she has been taken part in various dance dramas, group features and has also given many solo performances.She toured the United Kingdom in 1997 as a part of Guru Bhanumathi’s group, Bharatanjali.
Since moving into United States , Roopa has performed in many major dance events in the Bay Area. She has been actively involved in the dance fraternity not only through her dance but also successfully organizing many music and dance events and competitions in the bay area.
Roopa has worked extensively in training the younger generation in this ancient art form. Her school, Nrityaarpana Dacne Academy, located in West San Jose, imparts training in the authentic form which covers both the theory and practical aspects of dance in one of the most asthetic styles.
Her students have participated in many dance festivals and competitions conducted by various organizations in the bay area, and have won accolades and prizes, in these events.
Roopa aims at encouraging and nurturing the talent and interest of the younger generation in this intricate art form and motivate them to bring out the best in them.
